I love my older Maytag Neptune front loader washing machine. I bought it new around 2000, and it worked with with only minor issues until recently when it started making loud screeching noises. It is a MAH4000AWW. I found and ordered the parts I needed online - bearings, a seal, and a new OEM belt. It was a pretty big job but I got the bearings and the seal installed OK. When I tried to install the new belt I discovered it was a couple of inches too small. My old belt was 54" internal length, the replacement belt was 52 5/8". The belt tension adjustment was already at the smallest setting with the old 54" belt. After checking around that smaller belt was the only size new belt available for my machine. I searched forums and discovered a few reports from other Neptune owners having the same problem, The answer from Maytag was to replace all of the major internal parts with newer stuff that uses the smaller belt. But all my other parts were great now. I reinstalled my old belt, but no matter what I tried it either made noise or It came off when I tried to tighten it. I tried to use CSV auto belt conditioner which helped a little, but was far from ideal, I measured the ridges and belt characteristics with a micrometer and discovered that a standard 6PJ type belt looked right. My old belt was 54" internal length, but your belts are a little thicker and sized by external length, I bought a 6PJ1371 (54") and just to be safe I also bought a 6PJ1397 (55") since I have a lot of ability to adjust for bigger size if necessary. The 54" might work, but seemed a little too tight so I immediately tried the 55" belt and it fit perfectly with no adjustments. My old washing machine works like new with the 55" belt. In fact it seems to spin dry better than it has in years. Maybe I should buy another 55" belt and change it before another 24 years passes. Many thanks I am a very happy customer.
